Resolution on continuity of care for sick children of refugee seeking families

The EACH Charter, created in 1988, summarizes in 10 points the basic rights of sick children and young people. It is in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

In line with the EACH Charter for the Rights of Sick Children and its Annotations, specifically article 9 about ‘Continuity of care’, the member organizations of EACH European Association for Children in Hospital meeting in Utrecht on September 21 - 24 2016, adopted a Resolution in which they call upon all governments to ensure continuity of care for sick children of refugee seeking families.

Less gaps in medical treatment for refugee children

Since January 2016, the Dutch Association for Paediatric Medicine has had a notification centre where paediatricians can report problems they encounter when caring for the children of refugees. Children get lost in the shuffle of the many relocations and doctors do not know how and where to find them.
The notification centre was set up to gain more insight into the gaps in medical treatment for refugee children. At the end of April 2016, 35 notifications were made by paediatricians, primarily for children who did not appear for their appointment at the hospital or who disappeared after their first visit.
