Piet Leroy, paediatric intensivist (MD, PhD) presents in his dissertation (2012) several ways to deal safely and effectively with procedure related stress, pain or non-cooperative behaviour in sick children. In modern paediatrics invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are part of daily practice. Many of these procedures are painful and stressful or are impossible to perform without immobility. It is frequently the case that children need to be physically restrained.
